Ontario Tech launches EDGE training company in Oshawa, with executive learning and rapid skills programs

Ontario Tech University in Oshawa has launched EDGE, a private training company that the university describes as “powered by” Ontario Tech and focused on executive learning and rapid skills development. The launch was announced March 25.

The university’s announcement positions EDGE as a training option for organizations seeking short-term programs related to technological change, including artificial intelligence, and for employers facing labour shortages.

Ontario Tech said EDGE will run two main streams: Executive Learning for senior decision-makers and Rapid Skills Alignment aimed at workforce training.

Programs will be developed with employers and offered in on-site, online and hybrid formats, according to the university’s announcement.

Ontario Tech said the Executive Learning stream includes AI-focused courses such as the AI Accelerator and an AI Governance, Compliance and Due Diligence executive program. The university describes these courses as covering how AI is affecting organizational strategy, governance, operations and change management.

The announcement says the AI Accelerator Intensive was developed with the involvement of Dr. Hossein Rahnama, who Ontario Tech describes as head of the sAIpien program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab and founder and CEO of Flybits.

For its Rapid Skills Alignment initiative, Ontario Tech said EDGE will work with employers to design training for workers transitioning into roles in sectors including energy, health care and mining.

The announcement did not include pricing or enrolment figures.
