Ontario Tech marks National Philanthropy Day, outlines three donor-supported priorities

Ontario Tech University in Oshawa published a Nov. 14, 2025 National Philanthropy Day message recognizing donors, partners and volunteers. The post outlines three donor-supported priorities and includes a video featuring Nursing student Gloria Koya.

The university ties private gifts and volunteer time to research and student activities at Ontario Tech. The message links philanthropy to the school’s “Tech with a Conscience” vision and does not include financial figures or project timelines.

Ontario Tech lists three donor-supported priorities:

  • AI for Good: research into artificial-intelligence applications in health care, accessibility and education.
  • Ethical AI: research and guidance on the development of technology with attention to transparency, inclusion and human values.
  • Energy Innovation: research related to energy systems.

This year’s National Philanthropy Day video features Koya, a Nursing student in the Class of 2027. In the video, she says donor support has allowed her to pursue mental health research and focus on her studies without financial worry.

“Ontario Tech is tremendously grateful for the generosity and commitment of its donors, partners and volunteers,” President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Steven Murphy said in the message.

The post includes a link to the 2025 National Philanthropy Day video on the university’s website.
