Ontario Tech nursing pinning ceremony recognizes 145 graduating students
Ontario Tech University held its annual Nursing Pinning Ceremony on May 8, welcoming 145 final-year students from its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and Advanced Entry BScN programs, according to a university news release.
The ceremony is part of the Ontario Tech–Durham College collaborative nursing program and marks the completion of students’ nursing studies. Ontario Tech said more than 370 guests and 13 faculty members attended.
As part of the event, each graduate received a 2026 BScN pin.
The university said donors Sharan Swain and Carol Gifford attended the ceremony and helped distribute awards to student recipients.
The ceremony also included remarks from Ontario Tech alumna Anya Dimaculangan (Class of 2014), who the university described as a registered nurse, lactation counsellor and Mama Coach for the Durham Region.
In a statement included in the release, Nursing Student Committee co-presidents Nicole Khalileyh and Solaica Suthagar described the event as a celebration of graduating students and thanked student volunteers who assisted.
Ontario Tech listed the following student award winners:
- Caring Award — Sophie Lee.
- RNAO Leadership Award — Hugo Tam.
- Nursing Student Life Engagement Award — Rachel Gonzales.
- Personal Development Award — Rachel Gonzales.
- Perseverance Award — Oluwatobi Shokunbi.
- Advocacy and Social Justice Award — Alina Lakhan.
- Valedictorian — Hugo Tam.
