Ontario Tech says 700-plus joined Chancellor’s Challenge in Oshawa; $211,000 raised on September 20
More than 700 people took part in Ontario Tech University’s five-kilometre Chancellor’s Challenge at Polonsky Commons on the north campus in Oshawa on September 20, raising more than $211,000, according to the university. Ontario Tech said it held Homecoming the same day for the first time.
Ontario Tech said proceeds from the event support scholarships, teaching and research. The university said the total surpassed last year’s fundraising amount.
Participants included alumni, students, faculty, staff, friends and sponsors. The Chancellor’s Challenge offered a run, walk and roll through campus.
After the finish, attendees gathered for outdoor games, interactive stations and a barbecue lunch.
Homecoming activities the same day included lab tours and demonstrations, a discussion on artificial intelligence, family-oriented attractions and robotics demonstrations. Attendees also cheered the Ridgebacks men’s hockey team.
For the first time, Chancellor Mitch Frazer presented trophies to recognize fundraising achievements and community participation. The Champions of Change award went to the top fundraising team. Additional awards recognized student contributions, team spirit and creative efforts.
“This record-breaking Chancellor’s Challenge shows what’s possible when our community unites to empower students,” said Chancellor Frazer.
Over its five-year history, the Chancellor’s Challenge has raised more than $700,000 for the university’s Tech with a Conscience campaign, according to Ontario Tech.
