Ontario Tech University said more than 400 alumni, students, faculty, staff and community members attended its new Community Day event on Oct. 3, 2026, at its north Oshawa campus at 2000 Simcoe Street North.

The university said the event included a five-kilometre fundraiser, Homecoming activities, student showcases and opportunities to visit research and teaching spaces on campus.

According to Ontario Tech, the five-kilometre Ontario Tech Chancellor’s Challenge—described as a “run, walk and roll” through the north Oshawa campus—raised more than $176,000. The university said the money is intended for scholarships, bursaries and innovation in education.

The fundraiser began in 2021 under Chancellor Mitch Frazer and has raised close to $900,000 since then, Ontario Tech said.

In a statement released by the university, Frazer said the event “brings people together to support students” and gives visitors “a chance to see the remarkable work happening across this university.”

Ontario Tech said Community Day programming included tours and activities in spaces such as the Aquatic Toxicology Lab and the Nursing Simulation Lab. The university also cited hands-on activities at the Brilliant Catalyst, along with a “Retro Room” featuring classic video game consoles.

The university said visitors also took part in activities at the Criminological Research Advancing Racial Equity Lab that focused on “the human impact of algorithmic surveillance in the criminal justice system,” and joined podcast-style conversations at the Creators4Change Studio on artificial intelligence and social media.

Ontario Tech said donations connected to the Chancellor’s Challenge will be accepted until Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026.
