Ontario Tech Schedules Black History Month Events for February 2025 in Oshawa
Ontario Tech University will hold Black History Month events in Oshawa during February 2025. According to the university, activities include a program launch, a student showcase, and an art workshop, all intended for members of the campus community.
The events are scheduled as part of the university's observance of Black History Month in February. They involve student participation and exposure to Black Canadian culture on campus, as outlined by university organizers.
The Black Student Showcase will take place on Tuesday, February 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at Shawenjigewining Hall, with activities in the Tribute Communities Lobby and Mitch Frazer Foyer. The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging is organizing the event in collaboration with the Advancement office. According to Ontario Tech, the showcase will include a marketplace featuring Black-identifying student businesses, clubs, and societies, a keynote speaker, live performances, and refreshments. The launch of the Black Youth Visionary Program is also scheduled during the event, supported by a donation from Scotiabank.
A separate event, Stories in Colour: Celebrating Black Art, is scheduled for Monday, February 24, from noon to 3 p.m., at Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 210. The Student Engagement Equity team is organizing this workshop, which will introduce participants to the work of Black artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their own artwork inspired by these artists, with materials provided. The university states that registration is available through the Student Life Portal.
According to Ontario Tech, all Black History Month events are for members of the campus community.
