Ontario Tech Students Participate in Entrepreneurship Program Backed by Lassonde Donation

Eight Ontario Tech students and three staff members participated in the 2025 Enactus Canada Regional Exposition, held in Mississauga in March, according to the university.

Ontario Tech University states that a recent donation from Jennifer and Christian Lassonde is supporting the Skills Series project run by the Enactus Ontario Tech chapter at the university's Brilliant Catalyst hub. The Skills Series offers students workshops on topics including business planning, marketing, and financial management. It also features innovation challenges and networking opportunities with industry professionals.

According to Ontario Tech, the program provides students with mentorship from entrepreneurs, early funding, and support for product-based and e-commerce business ideas. The project ends with a showcase event where students present their ventures to judges and potential investors.

The university also reports that the Skills Series includes youth outreach, pairing Ontario Tech students as mentors for high school students working on business ideas. Collaborations with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Durham, the YMCA, Enactus UOttawa, and Enactus France are intended to broaden access to online entrepreneurial education.

Jennifer and Christian Lassonde said in a statement published by Ontario Tech University that they are proud to support the Skills Series program. Dr. Osman Hamid, Executive Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Brilliant Catalyst, expressed interest in continuing similar initiatives.
