Ontario Tech University and Humber Polytechnic Announce Partnership for Nuclear Industry Training
Ontario Tech University and Humber Polytechnic announced a partnership on February 20, 2025, to provide training and education programs focused on the nuclear energy sector.
Both institutions stated the collaboration is designed to prepare students for positions in the nuclear industry in Ontario, across Canada, and internationally. Ontario Tech University reported it will lead the partnership by offering its accredited undergraduate Nuclear Engineering degree and related training opportunities. Humber Polytechnic said it will contribute expertise in trades training, applied research, and programs in clean energy and nuclear infrastructure.
In a joint statement, Ontario Tech University and Humber Polytechnic said they are working with selected post-secondary schools across Canada to develop training initiatives for large-scale nuclear projects. According to the institutions, their approach is intended to support workforce development for emerging needs in the nuclear sector.
Statements from Ontario Tech University President Dr. Steven Murphy and Humber Polytechnic President Ann Marie Vaughan focused on skills development in nuclear technology, safety protocols, and innovation. The institutions also reported that their partnership draws on experience with CANDU reactor technology, current work on small modular reactors, and an emphasis on regulatory and safety standards in the sector.
