Ontario Tech University and Trafalgar Castle School Sign STEAM-Focused Partnership
Ontario Tech University in Oshawa and Trafalgar Castle School, an independent girls' school in Whitby, have formalized a partnership intended to support Trafalgar Castle School students in pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). The partnership agreement was signed on November 19, 2024, by Melissa Knight-Johnson, Head of School at Trafalgar Castle School, and Dr. Steven Murphy, President and Vice-Chancellor of Ontario Tech University.
According to both institutions, the partnership is designed to create a direct path for Trafalgar Castle School students to enter undergraduate programs at Ontario Tech University.
Ontario Tech University states that the collaboration includes a variety of activities such as guest speakers from the university, shared professional development sessions, and observation of teaching practices between the two schools. The university notes that Trafalgar Castle School students will have access to experiential learning opportunities and exposure to new technologies. Ontario Tech University also reports that these students will receive priority access to its Preparation Program and to micro-credential courses focused on leadership.
The university further states it will guarantee admission to undergraduate programs for all Trafalgar Castle School students who apply. Beginning in September 2025, Ontario Tech University will provide three annual scholarships of $2,000 each to Trafalgar Castle School graduates who enroll in its undergraduate programs.
The signing ceremony included attendees from Trafalgar Castle School and representatives from Ontario Tech University's Faculty of Business and Information Technology and Office of the Registrar.
