Ontario Tech University Appoints Dr. Pejman Mirza-Babaei as Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
Ontario Tech University has appointed Dr. Pejman Mirza-Babaei as Dean of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Dr. Mirza-Babaei joined Ontario Tech in 2013 and is currently a Professor of User Experience Research in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology.
Dr. Mirza-Babaei’s appointment brings changes in leadership to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, according to a university announcement. The selection is relevant to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty connected to SGPS.
According to Ontario Tech University, Dr. Mirza-Babaei’s academic and teaching work focuses on user experience in interactive systems. The university states he has held the position of Vice-President for the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group for Computer-Human Interaction since 2019.
The university reports that from 2018 to 2021, Dr. Mirza-Babaei was Associate Dean of Industry Partnerships in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology. In this role, according to Ontario Tech, he collaborated with internal and external partners on initiatives related to capacity, student experience, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The university also states he led the redesign of experiential learning programs within the faculty, aiming to increase students’ access to hands-on learning opportunities.
Most recently, and as reported by Ontario Tech, Dr. Mirza-Babaei served as Associate Dean in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. In that position, Ontario Tech states he focused on quality assurance, policy compliance, and clarity in guidelines for committee structures and thesis examinations.
Dr. Lori Livingston, Provost and Vice-President, Academic at Ontario Tech University, is quoted as saying, “Dr. Mirza-Babaei has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing innovative initiatives and supporting the diverse priorities of our graduate students.”
Dr. Mirza-Babaei said, “I’m deeply honoured to lead the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at this pivotal moment in its evolution. I look forward to strengthening the graduate education ecosystem through strategic growth, deeper collaboration, and more efficient, transparent processes.”
