Ontario Tech University Details Automotive Research and Industry Partnerships
Ontario Tech University in Oshawa states that its faculty and students are involved in research on electric mobility, hydrogen-powered vehicle technologies, sustainable manufacturing, and autonomous vehicle systems.
The university highlights these programs as part of its ongoing efforts to address changes in Canada's automotive sector. Ontario Tech cites Statistics Canada figures of 26.3 million registered vehicles in Canada in 2022, as well as $109.5 million in revenue from motor vehicle and parts manufacturing in 2023.
Ontario Tech reports that its undergraduate Automotive Engineering program is Canada’s only standalone, accredited program dedicated solely to automotive engineering. According to the university, students in this program design electric, autonomous, and hydrogen-powered vehicles as part of their coursework.
Ontario Tech describes its ACE Core Research Facility as housing a climatic wind tunnel used to test vehicles in extreme conditions. The university states that manufacturers use this facility for vehicle development.
The university also refers to Project Arrow, which it describes as the first all-Canadian zero-emission concept vehicle developed through collaborations between post-secondary institutions and automotive suppliers.
