Ontario Tech University Ranked First for Reputation in 2025 Maclean’s Rankings
Ontario Tech University received the top ranking for reputation among Canada’s ‘primarily undergraduate universities’ in the 2025 Maclean’s University Rankings, according to results published by Maclean’s magazine on October 10. The school also placed first for social science and humanities grants, second for total research dollars and library acquisitions, and third for medical and science grants. All results are based on Maclean’s reporting.
Maclean’s evaluates Canadian universities annually in several categories, including reputation, research funding, and library resources, grouping the institutions into categories such as ‘primarily undergraduate universities.’
According to Maclean’s, Ontario Tech University’s reputational ranking increased from eleventh place in 2017 to first in 2025. The university was also listed seventh in the overall combined score for the ‘primarily undergraduate’ category, having risen from fifteenth in 2012.
Ontario Tech University reports having introduced new academic offerings, such as a Sustainability major in the Faculty of Science and an Artificial Intelligence specialization in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science. According to the university, it now provides more than 50 undergraduate programs, including direct-entry co-op options, and its graduate studies have expanded to 40 master’s and doctoral programs.
In an official statement about the Maclean’s rankings, Dr. Steven Murphy, President and Vice-Chancellor of Ontario Tech University, attributed the university’s position to growth in student satisfaction, research activity, and partnerships.
