Ontario Tech University Recognizes E.P. Taylor Legacy Society Members During Leave a Legacy Month

Ontario Tech University held an event in May to recognize members of its E.P. Taylor Legacy Society during Leave a Legacy Month. The event acknowledged individuals who have made planned gifts, such as provisions in their wills, to support the university, according to information provided by Ontario Tech University.

Ontario Tech University is located in Oshawa and serves students from the Durham Region, including Clarington. The university states that planned gifts from E.P. Taylor Legacy Society members have helped provide scholarships, bursaries, advanced infrastructure, and research and industry partnerships.

According to the university, since the society was established in 2015, more than $7 million in planned gifts have been distributed. The society is named after Edward Plunket (E.P.) Taylor, founder of Windfields Farm in Oshawa. The university reports that Taylor donated land in 1966 for the benefit of students in the Durham Region. In 1996, his children, Charles Taylor and Judith Mappin, donated part of the Windfields property to help establish Ontario Tech University. Ontario Tech University identifies Taylor’s grandson, Jefferson Mappin, as the current E.P. Taylor Legacy Society Champion and states that he encourages planned giving.

The university noted the example of Irene Rahme, a member of the E.P. Taylor Legacy Society whose support has provided scholarships for students. Rahme said, “I chose to leave a planned gift to the university because I believe in the power of education to open doors and inspire purpose.”

During the event, Ontario Tech University’s Executive Director of Advancement, Lee Hays, thanked society members for their support.
