Ontario Tech University Recognizes E.P. Taylor Legacy Society Members in Leave a Legacy Month
Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ontario, recognized its E.P. Taylor Legacy Society members during Leave a Legacy Month in May 2025. The Society is made up of individuals who have included a planned gift to the university in their wills, according to the university.
The university says it has distributed more than $7 million in planned gifts since the Society’s founding in 2015. University representatives state these gifts have gone to scholarships, bursaries, infrastructure, and research and industry partnerships.
Irene Rahme, a member of the E.P. Taylor Legacy Society, made a planned gift that supports scholarships for students in the Faculty of Health Sciences. “I chose to leave a planned gift to the university because I believe in the power of education to open doors and inspire purpose,” Rahme said in a statement released by the university.
Lee Hays, Executive Director of Advancement at Ontario Tech University, said Society members are contributing as part of the university’s fundraising campaign, “Tech with a Conscience.”
The E.P. Taylor Legacy Society is named for E.P. Taylor, founder of Windfields Farm in Oshawa. According to the university, E.P. Taylor donated land in 1966 for student benefit in the Durham Region. His children, Charles Taylor and Judith Mappin, donated part of the Windfields property in 1996 to help establish Ontario Tech University. Taylor’s grandson, Jefferson Mappin, is identified by the university as the current Society Champion.
