Ontario Tech University Reports Record Fundraising Year in 2024-25
Ontario Tech University in Oshawa reported raising $13.3 million in donations between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, a figure the university describes as its highest annual fundraising total to date. According to Ontario Tech, this amount represents a 45 percent increase over the previous fiscal year and was raised through its 'Tech with a Conscience' campaign, which began in November 2024.
The university's report of a record fundraising year includes specific allocations of these donations. Ontario Tech stated that $1.8 million was used for scholarships, bursaries, emergency financial aid, and resources for varsity athletics and student-athletes. The university reported that $6 million was directed to campus enhancements and new high-tech learning spaces, while $5.5 million supported research and industry partnerships.
Ontario Tech noted that an anonymous donor contributed $4.8 million to support campus expansion. The university also stated that a donation from Mitch and Leslie Frazer resulted in the creation of the Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education, which Ontario Tech says is the school's first donor-named faculty. According to Ontario Tech, the Sorbara Family gave more than $1 million to fund new scholarships and improvements to campus facilities.
Further donations reported by the university include $750,000 from the RBC Foundation for establishing a student enrichment program in engineering and $500,000 from Scotiabank to launch the Black Youth Visionary Program. Ontario Tech stated that a gift from Jason and Riley Rinaldi established a Chair in AI and Rehabilitation at the Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research.
