Ontario Tech University Reports Rise in First-Year Admissions for 2025-2026

Ontario Tech University has reported that more than 2,200 Ontario high school applicants have confirmed offers for first-year admission for the 2025-2026 academic year. According to a university announcement on June 16, this figure is a 9.3 per cent increase from the previous year and exceeds the provincial average increase of 6.4 per cent.

The announcement provides updated figures on university admissions from north Oshawa, which may be of interest to local residents. The new data continues a multi-year trend of growth in first-year enrolment at Ontario Tech University.

University officials stated this is the third consecutive year with more than 2,000 domestic confirmations, adding that the number represents a 57.4 per cent increase since 2020. Including international, transfer, out-of-province, and mature students, the university reports a total September 2025 intake of just over 3,900 new students.

Dr. Joe Stokes, University Registrar and Assistant Vice-President, International, said in a statement that many Ontario Tech programs offer a direct-entry co-op option. He stated, “Many of our programs have a direct-entry co-op option, enabling students to gain paid, relevant work experience as an integral part of their degree from day one.”

The university identified engineering—including nuclear engineering—nursing, health sciences, and education as the most in-demand programs for incoming students. According to the university, there is a particular interest in these areas, which it notes are linked to labour shortages in the respective fields in Canada.

Ontario Tech University is located in north Oshawa.
