Ontario Tech University Schedules Black History Month Events for February

Ontario Tech University will host events on its Oshawa campus to mark Black History Month in February. Scheduled activities include the Black Student Showcase on Tuesday, February 25, and an art workshop on Monday, February 24.

The events are open to all campus community members, according to information provided by the university. Participants will have opportunities to engage with Black student groups, view performances, and take part in creative workshops.

The Black Student Showcase takes place on February 25 from noon to 4 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall’s Tribute Communities Lobby (first floor) and Mitch Frazer Foyer (basement floor). According to the university, this event is organized by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging in collaboration with the Advancement office. The showcase features a marketplace for Black-identifying student businesses, clubs, and societies, as well as a keynote speaker, live performances, and cultural refreshments. The launch of the Black Youth Visionary Program, supported by Scotiabank, is also set to occur during the showcase.

The art workshop, titled “Stories in Colour: Celebrating Black Art,” is scheduled for February 24 from noon to 3 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 210. According to the university, the session will introduce participants to the works and styles of notable Black artists. Attendees will have the chance to create artwork inspired by these artists, with all required materials provided. Registration for the workshop is available through Ontario Tech’s Student Life Portal.
