Ontario Tech University Sees Record First-Year Enrolment for 2025-2026
Ontario Tech University in Oshawa reported on June 16 that more than 2,200 Ontario high school applicants had confirmed offers for the 2025-2026 academic year as of June 5. According to the university, this is a 9.3 per cent increase compared to the previous year and exceeds the provincial average increase of 6.4 per cent. The university stated this marks the third consecutive year with more than 2,000 domestic first-year confirmations and reflects a total increase of 57.4 per cent since 2020.
The university also reported higher application and confirmation numbers from international, transfer, out-of-province, and mature students. Ontario Tech University estimates the total number of new students for September 2025 will be just above 3,900. Several programs offer a direct-entry co-op option for incoming students, according to the institution.
Based on information from Ontario Tech, the programs with the most applications include engineering (including nuclear engineering), nursing, health sciences, and education. The university cited shortages in Canada's nuclear sector and health system needs as factors contributing to increased demand for these programs.
