Ontario Tech University Sees Significant Rise in Applications Since 2021

Ontario Tech University received over 13,000 applications for the second consecutive year, according to data published by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. The centre reports that applications to Ontario Tech have risen by 27 percent since January 2022 and by 69.4 percent since January 2021, increasing from 7,734 to more than 13,000.

The growth in applications, as reported by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre, reflects a continued rise in interest among those seeking admission to the university.

According to information published on the Ontario Tech University website, the university offers degree programs in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, engineering, business, and health sciences. The university states that its programs include experiential learning opportunities, such as co-operative education, capstone projects, internships, work placements, and laboratory courses. The website also notes that students can apply directly to some co-op programs in their initial application via the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.

The Ontario Tech website states that the university ranks No. 1 for reputation in the 2025 Canadian University Rankings by Maclean’s magazine. It also reports that Ontario Tech is among the Top 200 Young Universities globally in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings for 2025.

In a statement published by Ontario Tech University, Dr. Joe Stokes, Registrar, attributed the growth in applications to the university’s focus on student and alumni success and its emphasis on experiential learning in technology-related fields.
