Ontario Tech’s Dr. Barbara Perry Appointed to Order of Canada
Dr. Barbara Perry, a criminology and justice researcher at Ontario Tech University, has been named a 2024 appointee to the Order of Canada. The Governor General announced the new appointees on December 18, with recipients scheduled to be formally honoured at a ceremony in 2025.
The Order of Canada is considered one of the country’s highest honours. Dr. Perry’s recognition comes after years of academic work based at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa.
Dr. Perry is the Founding Director of the university’s Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism. According to Ontario Tech University, her research focuses on issues related to hate, bias, and extremism. The university stated that her work has shaped public understanding and has informed policymakers, community leaders, and supported victims of violence and extremism.
As of December 18, no further details regarding the 2025 recognition ceremony have been announced by officials.
