Orono Residents Asked to Limit Water Use Amid Tower Maintenance
The Regional Municipality of Durham has advised that water conservation measures are in effect for municipal water supply users in Orono. These restrictions are scheduled to remain in place until August 15 but may be adjusted if weather delays occur.
The Region states the measures are required to allow maintenance work on the Orono water tower. Conservation is necessary, according to the advisory, to maintain adequate water levels for emergencies, including fire protection, while the work is underway.
Municipal water customers in Orono are asked to limit water use and stop non-essential outdoor activities such as cleaning driveways or decks and washing cars. Regional officials note that water service will continue during the maintenance, but some customers may notice fluctuations in water pressure. Select hydrants may discharge or spout water to help manage water pressure in the system while maintenance is ongoing.
