Oshawa Man Arrested in Series of Armed Robbery Cases in Whitby and Oshawa

A 41-year-old Oshawa man was arrested in connection with four armed robberies that occurred in Whitby and Oshawa between April 6 and April 24, 2025, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

The case is relevant to residents because the incidents involved armed robberies at local stores, resulting in the theft of cash, cigarettes, cannabis products, and lottery tickets. Police said the suspect pointed a black handgun at store employees during the robberies.

DRPS stated that investigators, with assistance from Ontario Lottery and Gaming, identified the suspect as Michael Vieira, age 41 of Oshawa. Police said that on June 11, officers executed a Criminal Code search warrant at Vieira's residence in Oshawa. During the search, officers reported seizing a replica firearm, cannabis products, and a quantity of psilocybin. Police said Vieira was arrested without incident.

According to DRPS, Vieira has been charged with four counts each of robbery with an offensive weapon, pointing a firearm, use of imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime, and possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace. He was also charged with one count of possession of a Schedule III substance for trafficking. Police said Vieira was held for a bail hearing.

Police said that the allegations have not been proven in court.
