Oshawa Man in Hospital After Whitby Collision, Police Investigate Alcohol Factor

A 39-year-old man from Oshawa is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision at the intersection of Taunton Road West and Cochrane Street in Whitby on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Durham Regional Police said the incident occurred at around 11:10 p.m. and involved a white Jeep Wrangler travelling eastbound and a black Honda SUV turning south onto Cochrane Street.

According to police, the crash led to injuries for all five occupants of the Jeep Wrangler. Four people from the Jeep had minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital, while the 39-year-old passenger was transported to a trauma centre in Toronto with serious, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda SUV also received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Durham Regional Police stated that the Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene. The intersection was closed for several hours as officers gathered evidence. Police indicated that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision, and the investigation is ongoing.
