Over 1,100 Tickets Issued During Durham Police School Zone Blitz in Early September
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) issued more than 1,100 traffic tickets in school and community safety zones across Durham Region during its annual "In the Zone" traffic safety blitz from September 2 to 5, 2025, according to DRPS.
The blitz took place during the first week of the new school year and focused on enforcement in areas near schools as students returned to classrooms. According to DRPS, the campaign is conducted each year to address traffic safety concerns at the start of the school year.
DRPS stated that the Traffic Services Branch led the campaign with support from officers in all divisions. Of the tickets issued, 527 were for speeding, 16 for cell phone violations, five for stunt driving, and 17 for careless driving. DRPS reported that other types of traffic offences were also ticketed during this period.
The "In the Zone" campaign takes place annually in Durham Region during the first week back to school, according to DRPS.
