Overnight water shutdown scheduled May 19–20 on Kingston Road East in Ajax

Water service is scheduled to be shut off overnight on Kingston Road East (Regional Highway 2) in Ajax, from Harwood Avenue (Regional Road 44) to Trott Lane. Durham Region says the shutdown is expected to run from about 5 p.m. on May 19 to about 8 a.m. on May 20.

The interruption affects residents and businesses along that stretch of Kingston Road East, and road users may see work crews in the area during the shutdown period.

According to Durham Region, the shutdown is needed to complete a water connection to service a new watermain being installed along Kingston Road. The region says affected residents and businesses will be notified directly.

If it rains, Durham Region says the work will be rescheduled to the following day.

The work is connected to construction for the second segment of the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project, Durham Region said.

After water service is restored, Durham Region advises residents to turn on a cold-water tap only and let it run for about five minutes. The region says this is intended to clear sediment that may have built up in the water service and to help prevent sediment from entering the hot-water system.

Durham Region is asking drivers to use caution in the area for the safety of work crews.
