Permanent Speed Bumps Planned for Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville on September 17
Permanent speed bumps will be installed on Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. According to the Municipality of Clarington, they will be located north of Prince Street, south of Jane Street, and north of Southway Drive. The Municipality states that work is expected to be completed within the day, and access to properties along Simpson Avenue will be maintained. The Municipality has also advised that minor traffic delays may occur while construction is underway, and that traffic control measures will be in place during the installation.
The Municipality reports that this project is part of a traffic calming strategy on Simpson Avenue. These permanent speed bumps are being added in addition to a pedestrian crossover with a bump-out and seasonal flex signs that are already present. According to the Municipality, the purpose of these measures is to reduce vehicle speeds and address safety concerns raised by residents in the area.
The Municipality has not indicated any changes to regular access for residents on Simpson Avenue. All installation work is confined to September 17, 2025, as per the municipal notice.
