Pistachio products sold at Toronto, Concord and Thunder Bay retailers recalled for Salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 recall on Oct. 2 for several pistachio and pistachio‑containing products sold at retailers in Toronto, Concord and Thunder Bay because of possible Salmonella contamination linked to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled and can cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious infection. CFIA advises consumers not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled items and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

The recall covers the following products, with sale dates and locations in Ontario:

  • Bulk Zone, 776 Macdonell St., Thunder Bay: Raw Hulled Pistachios (variable bulk, no UPC), sold July 14 to Sept. 13, 2025.
  • Sweet Flour Bake Shop, 130 Cawthra Ave., Unit 105, Toronto: Oatmeal Fig Pistachio 95 g (UPC 6 28110 18284 5) and Oatmeal Fig Pistachio (variable bulk, no UPC), sold July 4 to Sept. 24, 2025.
  • Qi Natural Food, 1001 Eglinton Ave. W, Toronto, and Bayview Natural Food, 1622 Bayview Ave., Toronto: Raw Pistachio (variable ~300–350 g, no UPC), sold July 23 to Sept. 26, 2025.
  • Bartholomew Bakery, 14-467 Edgeley Blvd., Concord: Pistachio Cheesecake (1 count, no UPC), sold Sept. 9 to Sept. 12, 2025.

  • Ambal Trading, 591 Parliament St., Toronto: Pistachio 100 g (UPC 0 10639 00100 2) and Pistachio 200 g (UPC 0 10640 00100 8), sold Sept. 7 to Sept. 29, 2025.

The recall was triggered by CFIA findings during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating the outbreak of human illness. The investigation may lead to additional recalls, and inspectors are verifying that industry removes recalled products from the marketplace.

Reported symptoms of Salmonella infection can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long‑term complications may include severe arthritis. Anyone who suspects illness after consuming a recalled product should contact a healthcare provider, CFIA advises.

Recalled firms include Ambal Trading, Bartholomew Bakery Ltd., Herbs & Nutrition by Qi Natural, Sweet Flour Bake Shop, The Bulk Pro Corporation and Qi Natural Food. The recall identification number is RA‑78172. The recall applies only to products distributed in Ontario.
