Pistachios, CocoaBistro bar sold at Kingston stores recalled for Salmonella risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Oct. 25, 2025, for bulk shelled raw pistachios and a pistachio-containing chocolate bar sold at two Kingston stores due to possible Salmonella contamination linked to an ongoing foodborne illness investigation.
CFIA says food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. The agency notes young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face higher risk. Reported symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, and long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
CFIA listed unbranded shelled raw pistachios sold in bulk (no UPC) at Tara Natural Foods, 81 Princess St., Kingston, from May 12 up to and including June 19, 2025.
The agency also named CocoaBistro’s “The Dubai Bar” (about 120 g, no UPC), sold at CocoaBistro Inc., 840 Development Dr., Kingston, from June 19 up to and including Aug. 28, 2025.
CFIA advises consumers and businesses not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled products. The agency says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. CFIA also advises checking homes and business inventories for recalled items and contacting a healthcare provider if illness is suspected after consuming a recalled product.
CFIA said the recall was triggered by findings during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an outbreak of human illness.
The food safety investigation is ongoing and may lead to additional recalls, CFIA said. The agency is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace. The products were distributed in Ontario.
The warning was published Oct. 25, 2025, as a Class 2 recall under identification number RA-78395. The recalling firms are CocoaBistro Inc. and Tara Natural Foods. CFIA listed the categories as food—nuts, grains and seeds, and candy, confectionery, snacks and sweeteners.
