Police Arrest Toronto Man After Firearm Discovered in Stolen Vehicle in Pickering
A 21-year-old Toronto man was arrested after police found a handgun inside a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop at The Shops at Pickering City Centre on Kingston Road on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
According to a statement from the Durham Regional Police Service, officers from the West Division were patrolling the area around 5:30 p.m. when they checked a suspicious vehicle and discovered that the licence plate belonged to a different vehicle. Police reported that further investigation showed the vehicle itself had been stolen.
When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he fled on foot but was located nearby with the assistance of Air1 and taken into custody. Police stated that a firearm was found inside the vehicle during a scene examination.
Zachary Bruno, age 21, of Toronto, faces several charges including occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possession of a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, breach of probation, and failure to comply with a release order. Police said Bruno was held for a bail hearing.
The Durham Regional Police Service noted that these charges are accusations and have not been proven in court.
