Police Execute Search Warrant in Ajax, Seize Firearm and Charge 29-Year-Old

Police said a 29-year-old Ajax man was arrested on July 2, 2025, after officers with Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) executed a search warrant at a residence near Rossland Road West and Marsh Lane. According to police, the search led to the seizure of a firearm and an overcapacity magazine.

DRPS stated that the arrest marked the end of "Project Ruins," an investigation by the Central East Criminal Investigation Branch into a person police described as a violent offender. Police said officers from the Tactical Support Unit assisted in executing the Criminal Code warrant, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The individual was identified by police as Sheldon Emmanuel of Ajax. According to DRPS, Emmanuel is facing charges including possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm without a license, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and failing to comply with court orders. Police stated that at the time of his arrest, Emmanuel was wanted on two counts of failing to comply and on a bench warrant for failing to return to court.

Police reported that Emmanuel was held for a bail hearing. DRPS noted that the information is based on their investigation and that all allegations have not been proven in court.
