Police Investigate Hate-Motivated Vandalism at Orono Mosque

Seven vehicles and the front door of a mosque in Orono were vandalized on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in what police are investigating as a hate-motivated incident. Officers from the Durham Regional Police Service’s East Division responded to reports at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the mosque located at 111 Church St North.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or cellphone footage from the area around the time of the vandalism to come forward. According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the investigation is ongoing and officers are working with local community leaders as part of their response.
