Police Investigate Swarming at Oshawa Pizza Pizza; Young Suspects Sought
The Durham Regional Police Service is investigating a swarming incident that took place at 199 Wentworth Street West in Oshawa. According to police, the incident occurred just after midnight on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at a Pizza Pizza location, where a group described as young people created a disturbance before several individuals jumped behind the counter and assaulted a staff member.
Police stated that the event was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. According to investigators, the confrontation began when one individual reportedly attempted to take an item and was confronted by a staff member, which led to a violent struggle. Several others then joined in the assault, according to the Durham Regional Police Service.
The Durham Regional Police Service advised that the Hate Crime and Equity and Inclusion units are assisting in the investigation and reported that all possible motives, including the potential that the incident was hate-motivated, are being examined. Police said their immediate priorities are to support the victim and identify the individuals involved.
Investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing additional video footage. Police are requesting that anyone with information or who witnessed the incident contact investigators. The Durham Regional Police Service also reminded the public that, due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, information that could identify young persons should not be published.
