Police: No injuries after shot fired at Whitby gas station; stolen car later found in Pickering
Durham Regional Police said no injuries were reported after a man fired a shot into the ground at a gas station near Victoria Street West and Montecorte Street in Whitby at about 9:10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025. The suspect left before officers arrived, and police said the sedan he used—reported stolen from Ajax—was later found unoccupied near Valley Farm Road and Pickering Parkway in Pickering on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025.
In a news release issued Sept. 17, the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to come forward, including residents who may have home surveillance or dashcam video from the area. The release did not include arrest information or a suspect description.
According to DRPS, members of Central West Division responded to an armed person call at the station and located a shell casing at the scene. Police said the suspect and the vehicle had fled before officers arrived.
Police said a man arrived at the gas station in a sedan, exited the vehicle, and fired a single shot into the ground before leaving the area. No physical injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the sedan had been stolen from Ajax several hours prior to the Whitby incident, according to the release.
DRPS said it continues to seek witnesses and any relevant video that could assist investigators. The service did not release additional details about the suspect or the vehicle beyond describing it as a stolen sedan.
The update was published five days after the incident and two days after the vehicle was located in Pickering, according to the Sept. 17 release. Police did not provide further information about the investigation’s next steps.
