Police Seek Suspect in Pickering Jewelry Robbery After Marketplace Meeting
Police are searching for a suspect following a street-level robbery that occurred in Pickering on July 7, 2025, in the area of Marinet Crescent and Hillcrest Road. According to the Durham Regional Police Service, members of West Division responded to the incident at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Police say the victim arranged to meet a potential buyer for a piece of jewelry listed on Facebook Marketplace. During the exchange, the suspect handed the victim an envelope in return for the jewelry. The victim realized after handing over the item that the envelope was empty. Police state that when the victim confronted the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun and fled in a dark-coloured vehicle. According to police, no physical injuries were reported.
The suspect is described by police as a male, Black, 18 to 20 years old, approximately 5’7” tall, with a skinny build. Police request that anyone with information or video surveillance related to this incident contact Det. Obront of the Central West Criminal Investigations Branch. Police add that anonymous tips can be provided to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers online or by phone.
