Police Seek Two Suspects After Armed Robbery at Online Sale Meeting in Whitby

Police are searching for two male suspects following an armed robbery in Whitby during an online marketplace transaction on August 12, 2025. According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Winchester Road East and Queen Street when a victim arranged to sell a microphone through Facebook Marketplace.

The incident is significant for Whitby residents and those using online selling platforms, as the robbery took place during a public meet-up arranged through social media. Police are asking the public for help identifying the suspects and locating the vehicle involved.

According to DRPS, the victim met a potential buyer and while communicating with one suspect, a second male approached, displayed a knife, and took the microphone. Both suspects reportedly fled southbound on St. Thomas Street and left the area in a dark-coloured Acura SUV before officers arrived. Police searched the area but did not locate the suspects. No physical injuries were reported.

DRPS describes the first suspect as a Black male, about 20 years old, 5’9” tall with a slim build, dreads, wearing a purple and black jacket, a black track suit, and white Nike running shoes. The second suspect is described as a Black male, about 20 years old, wearing a blue medical mask, a black hooded sweater with a white emblem on the front and a large graphic on the back, black pants, and white running shoes.

Police have released a photo of the suspect vehicle. DRPS asks anyone with information about the incident, or security camera footage from Winchester Road East, Queen Street, or St. Thomas Street between 7:10 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. on August 12, to contact Detective Constable Atell of the Central West Criminal Investigative Branch. DRPS states that anonymous tips can be provided through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
