Prospect Street in Bowmanville still closed after bridge damage; Clarington says no timeline for reopening

Share

Prospect Street in Bowmanville remains closed between Concession Street West and O’Dell Street because of damage to the bridge, and there is no timeline for inspection, repair or reopening, the Municipality of Clarington said in a May 29, 2026 notice. The municipality said the closure will remain in place until further notice.

The closure affects a local route for drivers and pedestrians in Bowmanville, and the municipality is directing people to take alternate routes while the roadway is closed.

Clarington said the bridge is owned and maintained by CPKC, and CPKC is responsible for decisions related to the bridge, including inspections and maintenance.

CPKC told the municipality the damage extends beyond the bridge’s deck boards, and that a more detailed structural assessment is needed before repairs or next steps can be confirmed, according to the municipal notice.

The municipality said it will continue to work with CPKC while the bridge remains closed.
