Raw pistachio kernels sold at New Westminster supermarket recalled over Salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Nov. 7, 2025, for unbranded raw pistachio kernels sold at Persian Baanou Supermarket in New Westminster, B.C., due to possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been reported.

The advisory applies to products distributed in British Columbia. The CFIA said food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can cause illness, and that young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face higher risks.

The recalled product is raw pistachio kernels with no brand name, sold in variable quantities of about 272 g and without a UPC. The CFIA lists the sale period as May 13 up to and including Nov. 6, 2025, at Persian Baanou Supermarket, 220 6th St., New Westminster, B.C.

CFIA test results triggered the recall. The agency is conducting a food-safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products, and is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

The CFIA advises consumers to check for the recalled pistachios, not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute them, and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase. The agency also advises anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product to contact a healthcare provider.

According to the CFIA, healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The alert is a Class 2 food recall warning in the Food – Nuts, grains and seeds category. The identification number is RA-78473; the CFIA lists an additional ID of 16899. The recalling firm is Persian Baanou Supermarket.
