RBC Training Ground Athlete Testing Set for February 23 at Ontario Tech University

Ontario Tech University in Oshawa will host the RBC Training Ground event on Sunday, February 23, 2025. According to the university, the event is open to individuals aged 14 to 25, including high school students, post-secondary students, and recreational athletes. Ontario Tech University states that advance registration is required and there is no cost to participate.

RBC Training Ground, as described by Ontario Tech University, is a talent identification and athlete funding program intended to discover young athletes with Olympic potential. Evaluations for speed, strength, power, and endurance will be held in the gymnasiums of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The university reports that National Sports Organizations will use these evaluations to identify athletes who could excel in such sports as biathlon, bobsleigh, canoe-kayak, climbing, cycling, field hockey, flag football, freestyle skiing, luge, rowing, rugby, ski jumping, speedskating, volleyball, and wrestling.

Since the program began nearly a decade ago, Ontario Tech University states that more than 16,000 athletes have been tested nationwide. According to the university, 21 of these athletes have competed at the Olympic Games, with 12 winning a combined total of 14 medals at three Games.
