RBC Training Ground Plans Athlete Identification Event at Ontario Tech University on February 23
RBC Training Ground will hold a free athlete identification event at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa on Sunday, February 23, 2025. According to organizers, the event is open to individuals aged 14 to 25, including high school and post-secondary students as well as recreational athletes. Testing will take place in the gymnasiums of the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, and advance registration is required.
The event is intended to identify participants with Olympic potential, according to organizers. They state that assessments will cover speed, strength, power, and endurance. Organizers also say that representatives from National Sports Organizations will attend the event to evaluate athletes for possible talent in a variety of sports, including biathlon, bobsleigh, canoe-kayak, climbing, cycling, field hockey, flag football, freestyle skiing, luge, rowing, rugby, ski jumping, speedskating, volleyball, and wrestling.
Ontario Tech University reports that hundreds of student-athletes compete in 15 Ridgebacks varsity sports within Ontario University Athletics. The university also notes that Alpine Canada recently used its ACE Core Research and Development Facility's Climatic Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel for pre-season training.
According to RBC Training Ground, the program has tested more than 16,000 athletes since it began nearly ten years ago. Organizers report that 21 athletes identified by the program have reached Olympic status, while 12 have won a total of 14 Olympic medals at three Olympic Games.
