Rea Brand Soppressata Salami Sweet Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Rea brand Soppressata Salami Sweet is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to a warning issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on July 14, 2025. The product was distributed in Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec.

The CFIA advises that food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. According to the agency, young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at increased risk of serious and sometimes fatal infections. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The recalled product is sold under the Rea brand as Soppressata Salami Sweet in variable sizes. It can be identified by the UPC 8 41571 04220 0 and code 5050 224. The recall was initiated based on findings by the CFIA during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. Marini Foods Limited is the recalling firm.

The CFIA stated that it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may result in additional recalls if more products are found to be affected. The agency is also verifying that recalled items are being removed from the marketplace.

Other related recalls have also been issued for Rea brand Genoa Salami and Bona brand Genova Salami due to similar Salmonella contamination concerns. This recall is classified as a Class 2 event and is identified with recall number RA-77728.
