Region of Durham Outlines Campaign for Welcoming Week September 12–21
The Region of Durham announced that, together with the Durham Local Immigration Partnership and local newcomer service providers, it will recognize Welcoming Week from September 12 to 21. A schedule of events and activities is planned throughout the area during this annual campaign, according to the Region.
The Region reports that 28 per cent of its current population are immigrants or individuals born outside Canada. The campaign is presented as an opportunity to acknowledge the people and organizations involved in supporting newcomers in the community.
According to the Region, a network of community organizations in Durham delivers programs year-round to support newcomer integration. Information about Welcoming Week events, services for newcomers, and stories from residents can be found at durhamimmigration.ca/WelcomingWeek. The website also hosts data on citizenship and immigration in Durham Region and outlines priorities from the Durham Local Immigration Partnership's 2025–2030 Community Inclusion Plan.
