Shaikh Al Kar Plain Halva recalled for possible Salmonella; Ontario among affected provinces

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Nov. 4, 2025, for Shaikh Al Kar brand Plain Halva due to possible Salmonella contamination. The 800 g product was distributed in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems can face more serious infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The affected product is Shaikh Al Kar Plain Halva (800 g), UPC 6 253011 500616, Best Before 2026.Jan.28, BN# 290124.V. The recall is classified as a Class 2 food recall warning under CFIA identification number RA-78442 in the category “Food – Candy, confectionary, snacks and sweeteners.” The notice was published and last updated Nov. 4, 2025.

Greenworld Foods Express Inc. is the recalling firm. According to the CFIA, agency test results triggered the recall. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to recalls of other products and is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace. The agency reports no illnesses associated with this product.

The CFIA advises consumers and retailers not to consume, sell, serve, use or distribute the recalled products. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. Anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product should contact their healthcare provider.
