Six-week Introduction to Employment series runs Nov. 17–Dec. 22, 2025 at Bowmanville Library
A six-week Introduction to Employment program for adults will run Mondays from Nov. 17 to Dec. 22, 2025, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Bowmanville Library in Clarington. Advance registration is required for each session through the Participation House Project, and a Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus pass is included.
The series covers workplace readiness, local transit navigation, and job search and interview preparation, and concludes with a workplace tour. It is presented with the Participation House Project (Durham Region), which the library listing says has provided services for youth and adults with physical and developmental disabilities in Durham Region for more than 40 years.
Session topics and dates are:
- Nov. 17: “Learning From You, About You!” — discussions about participants’ goals, experiences, and starting an employment plan.
- Nov. 24: “Introduction to Durham Transit” — hands-on practice navigating Durham Region Transit.
- Dec. 1: “Workplace Basics: Being Prepared and Professional” — punctuality and attendance; tools to stay organized and manage time off; dress and personal hygiene; working with supervisors and teammates.
- Dec. 8: “Succeeding on the Job” — job performance and safety; handling workplace problems; communication skills; tools to remember responsibilities.
- Dec. 15: “Job Discovery and How to Get Hired!” — identifying job types that match skills and interests; where to find opportunities; highlighting experience; strengthening a resume; and practicing interview skills.
- Dec. 22: “Tour and Wrap-Up” — a behind-the-scenes visit to WeCandle and program wrap-up.
