Temporary Mural Wall Installed at Site of March Bowmanville Fire
A temporary mural wall has been installed by the Municipality of Clarington at the site of the March 6, 2025, fire in downtown Bowmanville. The mural displays archival photographs depicting people and places that shaped the area over the past 100 years and features a #BowmanvilleStrong graphic.
According to the Municipality, the fire resulted in one fatality, displaced more than 30 residents, and forced ten businesses to close. The mural wall serves as a temporary measure at the location.
Municipal staff designed, built, and installed the mural wall. The Municipality stated that Ontario Power Generation provided financial support for the materials used for the wall. The #BowmanvilleStrong graphic references the community support that followed the fire, according to the Municipality.
The Municipality reported that the Clarington Board of Trade led a business relief initiative, raising more than $85,000 from over 60 contributors for affected businesses. The Salvation Army, according to the Municipality, raised more than $70,000 in gift cards and goods to support displaced residents and assisted evacuees after the fire.
The Municipality stated that its Invest Clarington team continues to work with the Bowmanville Business Improvement Area and Clarington Board of Trade regarding support for impacted businesses.
