Three Arrested Following Oshawa Carjacking; Police Involve Air1 in Pursuit

Three people were arrested after a carjacking in Oshawa on Saturday, September 13, 2025, according to the Durham Regional Police Service. Officers pursued the stolen vehicle, which crashed in a field near Conlin Road and Anderson Street. Police stated that the suspects were located and arrested with the assistance of the Air1 police helicopter.

According to police, the incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. near Nonquon Road and Mary Street North. The victim was parking his vehicle when three masked individuals approached, assaulted him, and took the vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Police report that after officers saw the stolen vehicle traveling north on Stevenson Road, they attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and continued north before turning west on Conlin Road, where it crashed after the driver lost control. The three individuals left the vehicle and ran into a nearby greenspace. All were subsequently apprehended with the aid of Air1.

A police search of one suspect uncovered a large knife and an airsoft gun. Three individuals are facing charges: Jonathon Da Silva-Smith, 30, of no fixed address, charged with robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, dangerous operation of a conveyance, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, and failing to comply with probation. Cammie Gibbs, 19, of Scarborough, is charged with robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, and two counts of possession of weapons dangerous to public peace. Michael Mitov, 20, of Scarborough, is charged with robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, possession of weapons dangerous to public peace, and possessing a prohibited weapon. Police stated all three were held for bail hearings.

The Durham Regional Police note this was the third violent carjacking in the region in a two-week span where suspects were arrested with the assistance of Air1. As of publication, all allegations against the accused have yet to be proven in court. Police have requested anyone with information about the incident to contact their Robbery Unit.
