Three Lakeridge Health physicians receive 2025 Regional Education Awards from Queen’s University

On August 15, 2025, Lakeridge Health said three of its physicians received 2025 Regional Education Awards from Queen’s University’s School of Medicine: two Excellence in Teaching Awards and one Mentorship Award.

Lakeridge Health attributed the honours to Queen’s University and said they relate to teaching and mentorship at the university’s regional sites. The hospital’s post did not include details about the selection process or how the awards were presented.

The hospital named two recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Awards: Dr. Shannon Trainor, chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Lakeridge Health, and Dr. Nasim Zamir, an attending critical care medicine specialist at Lakeridge Health.

Lakeridge Health said the Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes teaching by community preceptors in Queen’s regional sites.

According to the announcement, the Mentorship Award went to Dr. Andrea Copeland, a plastic surgeon.

The post identifies Dr. Trainor as chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Lakeridge Health and the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, and as an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at Queen’s University. It also lists her as a Lakeridge Health Foundation board director and vice-chair of its Development & Communications Committee.

It lists Dr. Zamir as an adjunct assistant professor in Queen’s Department of Critical Care Medicine and informatics lead for Lakeridge Health’s critical care department.

The announcement identifies Dr. Copeland as a plastic surgeon (MD, FRCSC).
