TPS Arrests Two Suspects in Oshawa with Assistance from DRPS Air1 Helicopter

According to a statement from Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers arrested two suspects in Oshawa on June 24, 2025, with assistance from the DRPS Air1 helicopter. DRPS stated the arrests followed a shooting incident in Toronto earlier that afternoon.

The activity led to a multi-jurisdictional police presence in both Whitby and Oshawa and involved the use of aerial surveillance during the search and apprehension of the suspects.

DRPS reported that at around 4:00 p.m., officers from Central West Division responded to the area of Thickson Road North and Taunton Road East in Whitby upon receiving information from TPS that two suspects connected to the Toronto shooting were in the area. Air1 conducted an aerial search and located a suspect vehicle parked in a driveway at a Whitby residence.

Shortly after, DRPS says the vehicle departed the residence. Air1 followed it into Oshawa, providing updates to TPS and DRPS officers on the ground. Police state that at one point, one of the suspects switched vehicles, and Air1 continued its surveillance. At around 5:15 p.m., police units boxed in the vehicle in Oshawa, and both suspects fled on foot.

DRPS reports that Air1 located one suspect, who was then taken into custody. At approximately 6:00 p.m., the helicopter located the second suspect in a nearby playground, where he was also arrested.

Police state that officers recovered a firearm and a quantity of drugs during the course of these arrests. DRPS reports that one male from Oshawa and one male from Toronto are facing multiple charges and were held for bail hearings. The Toronto Police Service has also issued a news release regarding the incident.
