Two Children from Whitby Seriously Injured in Oshawa Collision, Police Report

Two children from Whitby were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Taunton Road near Stevenson Road North in Oshawa on Wednesday, May 14, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

Police report the collision occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. and resulted in a closure of the roadway for several hours while evidence was collected. Emergency services, including Durham EMS and Whitby Fire, responded to the scene and provided assistance to those involved.

According to DRPS, the incident involved a 2000 Ford Mustang and a 2016 Hyundai Elantra in a T-bone collision. The driver of the Mustang left the scene on foot but was found and arrested by police soon after. Three passengers in the Mustang were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four people were in the Hyundai Elantra. Emergency crews extricated the 41-year-old male driver, who was taken to hospital with minor injuries. A 33-year-old female passenger required a longer extrication before being transported with serious injuries. Two children, a 10-year-old and a 5-year-old, both sustained extensive injuries and were taken to a Toronto-area hospital. DRPS state the 10-year-old is in stable condition, while the 5-year-old remains in serious condition.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to investigate. Police identified the Mustang driver as Aditya Singh, 29, of Oshawa. He was charged with five counts of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, and Failing to Remain Causing Bodily Harm. DRPS said Singh was held for a bail hearing.
