Two youths arrested after alleged Whitby cinema stabbing and robbery, Durham police say
Two youths were arrested Oct. 28, 2026, in connection with an alleged stabbing and robbery at Landmark Cinemas in Whitby, Durham Regional Police say.
The incident, which police say happened after midnight at a local movie theatre, left a 15-year-old boy with what officers described as a significant laceration. Police said they believe the incident was isolated and the investigation is ongoing.
Officers from the Central West Division responded to Landmark Cinemas at 75 Consumers Drive at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, police said, after a report of an armed person. Police said officers arrived and found the 15-year-old boy injured.
Investigators said the teen went to the theatre to meet a female he knew through social media. Police allege a group of youths approached him inside the theatre and demanded his jacket.
Police allege that when he refused, one of the suspects produced a machete and struck him in the arm. Police allege the group assaulted him and stole his jacket and cash.
Investigators identified four suspects and obtained warrants for two, police said. The two were arrested without incident Oct. 28, 2026. Police said both youths were in violation of release and sentence orders at the time of their arrests.
