Whitby Man Arrested for Alleged Breach of Prohibition Order at Heydenshore Park

A 46-year-old Whitby man was arrested on July 20, 2025, for allegedly breaching a court-imposed prohibition order by visiting Heydenshore Park, according to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS).

Police stated the court order prohibits the man from attending parks, playgrounds, and other places where children under 16 are reasonably expected to be present.

The DRPS reported that on June 28, 2025, officers from the Central West Criminal Investigations Branch observed an unoccupied vehicle in the main parking lot at Heydenshore Park in Whitby, parked directly in front of the children’s playground. According to police, the vehicle was associated with Christopher Mezzabotta, who was known to officers and under the prohibition order at the time.

Officers said their investigation confirmed Mezzabotta attended Heydenshore Park, which police allege was a violation of the conditions of his court order. Mezzabotta was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including breaching the prohibition order, and held for a bail hearing, police reported.

Police noted that these allegations have not been proven in court and that the investigation is ongoing.
